July 2010
Nadia and Billy Kidgell welcomed their daughter Grace into the world on the 15th. Nadia ( nee Grosvenor ) used to do content for KDR and our congratulations goes out to both of them.
Baby's not withstanding, there was also the small matter of the world cup finals. Congratulations to all the Durbanites who put down their surfboards for a while and made Durban the most spoken about destination of the World cup. Our Port Zimbali and Self catering consultants were kept very busy over this period.
June 2010
World cup time and we are as caught up in the fever as anyone else. Some of the Jo'burg office were at the opening game against Mexico.
In a clockwise direction starting top left:
Richard being hijacked by Tequila armed Mexicans; Soccer city at Sunset; Victor one of the KDR Tourguides and dedicated driver for the day; Denis and Ken; Richard, Graham and Iku; Richard and Ken guarding their
R30 Budweisers; Some Mexican ladies.
May 2010
This was a month spent looking for World cup accommodation for Soccer fans as well as preparing for one of the largest and most historically important games of rugby in South Africa since the RWC in '95. Sportstravel had quite a few groups at both the Semi Final and the Final in Soweto. With our expertise in selling tours of Soweto and dealing with large corporate groups doing "Amazing race" days we gave the supporters one of the more memorable trips they will ever have.
April 2010
April is so far a month filled with birthdays, Jenna, Dane and Brenda. After the busy Easter weekend rush, a nice relaxing drink or two to celebrate each other’s birthdays, is a well deserved present. We’ll be at The Keg and Trout in Hillcrest if any one wishes to join us on the 16th of April in the afternoon.
Jenna took a trip around KZN to familiarise herself with some properties and re-aquaint herself with tohers. Properties include: Thanda Private game reserve; Makakatana Bay Lodge; Hotel IZulu; Duma Manzi Private game lodge and Three tree hill in the Battlefields., so if you have any questions or need advice please call her in the Durban office.
Lucy also found out she was pregnant and is expecting the baby in mid October. Congratulations to her and her husband Duncan the bed guru.
March ‘10
We celebrated Richard and Lucy’s birthdays and a new birthday was added to the calendar. On the 14th of March Ken, our Johannesburg office director, had a healthy baby girl named Megan.
Jenna was lucky enough to take advantage of being a tour operator and visited five lodges that you can find on our lastminuteloges.co.za website.
From Thanda Private Game Lodge with 5 star service, amazing game viewing and ultimate romantic destination, to Three Tree Hill in Spieonkop with so much history, wonderful settings, home-style feel and Shakaland for the ultimate cultural experience.
Other properties she visited where Makakatana Bay Lodge, Hotel Izulu and Duma Manzi which were all spectacular properties. The experience was unforgettable.
All these properties are so varied and unique, each appealing in their own specific way and complimenting one another because of there differences.
February ‘10
February welcomed two new staff members to KDR Travel, Brenda Mc Donald (senior consultant) and Dane Snyman (IT/web master).
Brenda has been in the travel industry for the past thirty years. With her years of experience and graceful manner with people, Brenda has brought an extra element to KDR Travel and we look forward to working with her.
Dane has joined us as our much needed web master. He will be making sure all our websites are up to date with the latest specials and information, and ensuring KDR Travel websites are as user friendly as possible.
January ‘10
KDR Travel and Tours Durban started off 2010 with many changes, more good than bad, luckily.
After lots of hard work and lots of yellow paint KDR Travel opened up it’s first retail shop in the Linkhills Shopping Centre in Waterfall. It has been a welcome change moving to a retail shop. Along with our walk in clients and internet enquiries off our websites, our consultants are kept busy and on their toes.
If you are in the Waterfall area we welcome you to pop in and have a look at our wide variety of brochures and have a chat with one of our consultants to organize the perfect holiday for you.
We entered the New Year two staff members short, as Jenny-Lee (senior consultant) and Nadia (IT and marketing) sadly left us at the end of 2009.
Although Jenny-Lee had only been with us for a short time, her bubbly personality has been missed in the office. Nadia resigned from KDR after finding out she was expecting her first baby and decided to start her own business from home. We wish both ladies the best of luck in their new adventures and look forward to meeting Nadia’s new baby girl.
We welcomed back a familiar face, Julia Kruger, ex manager of the Hillcrest branch of KDR Travel. After a brief break with the company, she has now come back with her own company and gone into a joint venture with us. Selfcateringhouses.co.za will soon be launched. The website will contain details on self catering places to rent on the Durban Point waterfront and KZN North coast areas and then will gradually list properties countrywide.
